The five books about Port are not his best work--he seemed to be experimenting with different types of mystery story in them, which is interesting, but makes the series a bit of a mish-mash. Port's not a strong enough character to bridge that gap. But I enjoyed them all to some extent. Rabe always wrote with conviction, and he was enormously talented.
